Baking for Charity.....

We were raising money at work this week for Cerebral Palsy , so some of the Office guys & girls put their hands up to do some baking. I was one of them. I'm a bit of a lover for Charity Fundraising. Back in 2008 I decided to organise a Girls Night In for women's cancer {little did I know I would have a cancer scare myself a year later}. The night went from a small night into a huge night in the beer garden at our local hotel, with around 300 guests. I've been told since it was one of the best nights the town has had, and have been asked to do it again. It takes up a lot of your time, so I haven't yet, but I will again one day. A total of $7000 was raised which was an amazing effort.

Anyway, this week was for Cerebral Palsy, a great cause and I decided on Lemonade Scones. I can't take the credit for these delicious scones. I got the recipe from FatMumSlim which is a blog I LOVE and follow regularly. Chantelle is one of, well she is my favourite blog of all time. I'm addicted. :) {but my favourites are for another post}

You can find the the recipe for Chantelle's delicious Lemonade Scones on her blog here. But, be warned, not only will you bake and bake them again. You'll be following another cool blog.

Enjoy!!

Are women becoming selfish?

SO, I was watching Today Tonight last night, with a segment on women being selfish in todays world. 'They' say we are having babies later in life because we are too career driven...selfish.

I've thought about this since watching the show. I fell pregnant with my first at the age of 19. He wasn't a planned pregnancy and it came as a bit of a shock. By 20 I was a mother to a very demanding baby, and I think that was more of a shock than the pregnancy itself. I went on to have my second child at 22. She was planned because I figured if I had one, I may as well have another, and have them close together. Everyone tells you that the closer they are the better, to 'get them out of the way' so to speak.

I've talked to my daughter, now 15, about my views on being a younger mother. When all my friends were out travelling, partying, wondering what to wear, I was at home with puke all over me and washing the cloth nappies {they don't seem to use them anymore} with Lux Flakes, because babies have sensitive skin. Trying to get sleep, breastfeeding on demand....you get the drift.

But, right now I wouldn't like my daughter to be pregnant at 19 with a baby at 20. I say late 20's to her, if she is settled and has the right partner, but to life her life and be content enough to bring another person into the would. Its one of the toughest jobs I've had to do in my life.

A pro to having my kids so young is that my son is now 18 and my daughter is almost 16, with me just turning 38, so by the time my daughter is 18 and they're both making their way into adulthood and leaving the nest, I'm still young enough to travel, and have some freedom while still young. That is one of the benefits of having babies so young.

I wouldn't send them back for the world, I love them with all my heart, and they put sunshine into most of my days {well, come on they are teenagers} but if I did have my time over again. I would have waited a little longer than 19. To. Be. Honest.

Thats my rant for the week

Who likes birthdays?

It was my birthday the week before last, it would have been the only one in the last ten years that I haven't been super excited about. I usually celebrate for two weeks. The weekend before, and the weekend after, tell all my friends and family and celebrate at any chance I get. This year, I don't know if it was my age, {I turned 38} or what was and has been going on in my life lately, but I really wasn't excited about it at all.

I did however get some lovely pressies, and that was exciting. Including this hammock chair from my best friend. It sits a bit low to the ground but I've gotten used to that, and its very comfy. I can see me sitting in this reading a book in the warm afternoon sunny. A. lot.

My week in pictures

Thursday my new lounge arrived. It is sooo comfy. The circle chair is mine. I've claimed it, it swings around and rocks and is the nicest lounge  I think I have ever owned. Please excuse the mat, it clashes and I will be buying a new one very soon, just as soon as I find one that I like.
All week these little darlings have been causing me grief, but thats what kids are for hey!

Kristy & Brendan has their baby, I have only just finished editing their maternity shoot and they had their little bundle of joy 3 days ago. They had a bouncy baby boy and I can't wait to meet him.

After deciding not to go to Dubbo Zoo this weekend, I've had a quite a lazy weekend. Watching Tele, playing WWF {Words with Friends}, which is my current addiction. Visiting friends and lazing around. And now I have a yummy pork roast in the oven for dinner. Lovely way to end a lovely weekend.

Well, that is my week in pictures!!
